Sisters of Code organized a free workshop on "Website Development for Beginners" on the afternoon of July 26, 2025, at IT Academy STEP Cambodia, Olympic Branch.
The interest to the workshop topic exceeded our expectations, as 58 participants, with 88% being female joined us on Saturday. Due to the high level of interest, we conducted the workshop in two formats simultaneously: Offline and Online. We believe this enthusiastic attendance demonstrates growing interest in technology among female students, who are eager to learn and explore the field of IT.
The workshop began with a warm welcome and an introduction to Sisters of Code, where participants learned about our mission to empower girls in tech and the free programs we offer to support their digital growth.
The workshop was led by our trainer, Mrs. Kim Mithona, who introduced three key topics essential for beginners in website development:
What is a Website and How Does It Work?: explaining how websites function and are displayed on browsers.
Getting Started with HTML: introducing the basic structure and elements of a web page.
Intro to CSS and Styling Your Page: demonstrating how to style and format web pages to improve their appearance.
Following the presentation, participants moved into a hands-on practice session, where they began building a simple "About Me" webpage using HTML and CSS.
To support independent practice, the trainer also introduced w3schools.com, a beginner-friendly website with tutorials and examples. In addition, she recommended other valuable platforms for learning to code, including: freeCodeCamp, The Odin Project, Codecademy.
In addition to practicing HTML and CSS, the trainer also introduced and guided students in using Wix.com—a free, no-code website builder—to create their portfolios, which is especially helpful for those less familiar with coding tools.
Toward the end of the session, the trainer shared her personal journey in the tech field and highlighted opportunities such as coding competitions, awards, international exchange programs, and job prospects. Her story served as an inspiring example for participants, especially those considering future paths in technology.
Sisters of Code team is grateful to our trainer, Mrs. Kim, who has been supportive to the first female coding club in Cambodia since the first year of establishment, serving as a trainer and curriculum development expert, as well as role model for so many young girls in Cambodia.
The workshop concluded with a group photo, celebrating the participants' active engagement and enthusiasm. It was a meaningful afternoon filled with learning, inspiration, and connection. We are looking forward to see more students joining our events and educational programs in the future.
