On Saturday, April 25, 2026, Sisters of Code and IT Academy STEP Cambodia Institute, in partnership with the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPTC) are bringing the global energy of International Girls in ICT Day back to Phnom Penh. This important event will take place from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM at the MPTC Hall, centered on the powerful theme, “Girls Building AI for Cambodia’s Development.”
We are inviting students and educators to join us for an afternoon of live coding and expert panels to witness firsthand how the next generation of Cambodian women will lead the digital revolution.

Why This Moment Matters for Cambodia
This local celebration is part of a much larger global story. International Girls in ICT Day was created by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to increase awareness of information and communication technologies (ICT) among girls and women and inspire them to pursue careers in this field. As of 2023, over 417,000 girls and young women have participated in more than 11,590 celebrations across 175 countries worldwide.
Sisters of Code has brought this movement to Phnom Penh since 2023. In alignment with the 2026 global theme, "AI for Development: Girls shaping the digital future," we are focusing our efforts on the specific potential within our own borders. Our objective this year is to move beyond simply talking about technology and instead create a clear pathway for Cambodian girls to see themselves as confident users of AI and future leaders in the digital technology field.
What to Expect at the Event
We have designed this afternoon to be an experience that moves you from curiosity to true confidence. This is not a lecture. It is an opportunity to walk into the MPTC Hall and see a version of your future self through a series of human-centered activities.
Stories from Experience: We are bringing together female leaders from the Ministry and tech education who have navigated this path before. They’ll share not just their successes, but the reality of building a career in tech, offering a roadmap for those just starting out. They will also share a vision on how AI adoption can help Cambodia development.
The "Human + AI" Partnership: We often hear that AI will replace jobs. We want to show you how AI can actually amplify your potential. We’ll explore AI as a "Personal Assistant", a tool that handles the repetitive tasks so you can focus on the big ideas and creative problem-solving that only a human can provide.
The Live Coding Demo: Two students will build a functional app right before your eyes using Stitch AI and Google AI Studio. You’ll see exactly how they use their foundational coding knowledge to "review and polish" what the AI generates, ensuring the final product isn't just a generic script, but a solution that meets their specific goals.
The event is open to public and is conducted in Khmer.
